Robert H. “Bob” LeVin, 84, of Minnetonka, Minn., formerly of Sublette, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Freedom Pointe Assisted Living Communities, Minnetonka, Minn.

Bob was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Chariton, Iowa, the son of John and Eunice (Harding) LeVin. He graduated from Marion High School, Marion, Iowa, in 1943, where he was an active band member. Bob joined the Navy in August 1943, as a radio man on the destroyer USS Key, receiving an honorable discharge in March 1946.

Bob was employed by AT & T, formerly Western Electric, and retired after completing more than 39 years of service. He worked around the country building the infrastructure of today’s telephone service.

Bob married Dorothy Heitman in June 1973. After retiring, Bob and Dorothy moved to Sublette to enjoy their hobbies. He was an avid amateur radio enthusiast. Bob enjoyed camping and motor home travel, where he could indulge his love of photography and the outdoors. Bob started LeVin Photography, Sublette, and was a correspondent photographer for Today’s Photographer Magazine.

For more than 15 years, Bob was a member of Sublette Volunteer Fire Department, as the staff photographer. He also was a past chairman for Woodhaven Nature Club outside of Amboy, and a lifetime member of Mendota Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4079 and American Legion Post 0540.

He was known for his great wit and his loyalty to his friends and family. He was a hard worker, but always had time to sit and visit.

He was greatly loved and will be missed by those close to him.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy LeVin of Minnetonka, Minn; two stepdaughters, Diane (Dennis) Wilkinson of Glendale, Ariz., and Lisa (Thomas) Baker of Eden Prairie, Minn; and one grandson, Brady Buchholz of St. James City, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Anna May LeVin; and one brother, John LeVin Sr.

Memorial service will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Arrangements were completed by Washburn–McReavy Funeral Home, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Memorials may be made to Sublette Volunteer Fire Department.
