Lois M. DeDecker, 85, of Victor and formerly of Ladora, died February 7, 2010, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 12, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the Rev. Jim Davis, pastor of the Victor United Methodist Church. Organist will be Verabeth Bricker. Pallbearers will be Ernie and Eric Meyer, Duane, David, and Dan Rhinehart, and Brad DeDecker. Honorary bearer will be Chad DeDecker. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and where the family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lois M. DeDecker Memorial Fund.

Lois was born July 17, 1924, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse Barrett and Maude Marie Doughty Campbell. She lived in several communities, while her father worked for the railroad, prior to moving to Manson in 1936. She was a graduate of Manson High School. During World War II, she served with the Navy Waves in the Washington, D.C. area.

On May 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne R. “John” DeDecker, in Manson, and the couple made their home in Ladora. She was employed for several years with the Ladora School District in the lunch program and as a teacher’s aide. She later was employed as a secretary at Amana Refrigeration in Amana and then for Augustine Insurance Company in Ladora. She retired in 1977. She moved to Victor in 1989 and had been a resident at Brookhaven since the summer of 2009. She was a member of the Ladora United Methodist Church and was a former Boy Scout leader.

Lois was very family oriented, a great role-model, and provided a good foundation for her family. She loved family gatherings and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She held a passion for art and enjoyed oil and watercolor painting. She enjoyed baking, traveling with her sister, and sewing. She would spend many hours making clothing for her family and doll clothing. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and held a wonderful imagination for story-telling. She loved music, shopping, and ice cream.

Survivors include two children, Linda (Ernie) Meyer and Penne (Duane) Rhinehart of Victor; one brother, Roger Campbell of Salem, Oregon; one sister, Marilyn Dodgen of Humboldt; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1984; and her son, Rick DeDecker in 2006.
