MARENGO DEMOCRAT OCTOBER 1897
OBITUARY
Edward Parker Ross was born in Kirksville, Missouri, October 10, 1877, and died at Ardmore, Indian Territory, May 28, 1897. Nearly all his life was spent in his native town until the removal of the family to this city about five years ago. The Ardmore Chronicle of May 28 published the following regarding his sickness and death. "Edward Ross, aged 19 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ross, died at the Bruce hotel this morning at 8 o'clock, after an illness of ten days, during which time he had undergone two very difficult surgical operations. The deceased had only lived in Ardmore about two months, but during that short time he had made many warm friends. He was connected with the construction of the electric light lines in this city, of which enterprise his father was superintendent. He came here from Marengo, Iowa. As mentioned in yesterday's Chronicle, the mother arrived here on the morning of that day. She was, from her arrival until the end came, constantly with her son. He was conscious until the last, recognizing his parents and friends until his eyes were glazed in death. The body has been prepared for shipment and will be taken to Kirksville, Missouri, for interment in the family burying ground. Mr. and Mrs. Ross will leave with the remains on the midnight train to-night. Though here as comparative strangers, the afflicted parents are not lacking the sympathy of all Ardmoreans in their sad bereavement."
