RETIRED FARMER DIES WEDNESDAY EAST OF CITY
Vernon Hummer Funeral Held In Federated Church Friday At Oxford

Vernon Fred Hummer died Wednesday forenoon of last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hummer ten miles east of Williamsburg following an illness which had afflicted him for two years. He died of cancer.

He was born at Windham, near Cosgrove, Iowa, January 20, 1877 the son of Adam and Fredericka Mohnk Hummer. His early years were spent in York township in Iowa County.

He lived in the vicinity of Cosgrove until 1891 when he moved to York township in Iowa county. He married Annie Martinson at Conroy February 23, 1910. Three children were born to them and all three survive both the father and mother.

They are: Luella, wife of John L. Stahmer of Iowa City, Bertina, wife of Emmett Smith of Homestead, and Orville Hummer of Williamsburg. Mrs. Vernon Hummer passed away October 15, 1916.

The funeral of Vernon Hummer was held in the Federated church at Oxford Friday afternoon with Rev. Mr. Underwood and Rev. Mr. Thompson officiating. Interment was in the Harrington cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Kinney, Francis Kinney, Joe Winters, John Curry, James Curry, George Maas.

He has one brother Arthur Hummer who lives at Brooklyn, and one sister Mrs. Alice E. Hicks of Erie, Pennsylvania.
