Irene L. Frimml, age 85, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 5, 2007, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Perpetual Care Fund for Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband Lawrence; a son, Gerald (Mary) of Atkinson, IL; two daughters, Janet Mohead (Ernie) of Vicksburg, MS and Linda Steele (Leonard) of North English; five grandchildren Lisa Gildehaus (Allen) of Ames, Laura Hansen (Kris) of Redmond, WA, Sara Frimml of Bettendorf, Clancy Steele (Amy) of Huntsville, AL, and Cheyan Steele (Heather) of Hiawatha, and three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Eric Gildehaus and Maverick Steele. In addition she is survived by brothers, Leroy Ballard (Mildred) and Richard (Carol) Ballard and a sister, Helen Plotz (Parlyn) all of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Estelle Kensler, and four brothers, Harry, Edmond, Robert and James Ballard, Jr.

Irene Lillian Ballard was born July 9, 1921 in Troy Township of Iowa County, near Williamsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of James Adrian Ballard and J. Esther Whitfield Ballard. She received her education in the Iowa County schools and married Lawrence F. Frimml on October 10, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watkins. Besides being a homemaker, Irene assisted her husband on the farm. She also worked at the Ox Yoke Inn in the 1970’s. Irene enjoyed embroidering, collecting recipes, shopping, flowers, cooking for her family, especially baking pies, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Irene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo and the Altar and Rosary Society.
