NORTH ENGLISH-Glen I. Finch, age 94, of North English, formerly of Sigourney, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Glen was born May 18, 1914, near Keswick, Iowa, to Henry and Neva (Williams) Finch. He attended Porter country school and Keswick High School. On November 11, 1934 he married Dorothy May Bailey. The couple lived in Keswick and New Hampton before moving to the Bailey farm in 1949. They then moved to Sigourney in 1954 and Dorothy passed away in 1956. Glen then married Josephine Esther Kerber in October of 1957. She died in 1984. Glen worked as a truck driver, ran the Standard filling station in Sigourney and owned and operated Glen Finch Heating and Cooling. He was a former member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed telling stories about his life experiences, fishing, camping, boating and living in Arizona. Survivors include five children: Stanley Finch and wife Mary of Sigourney, Steven Finch and wife Barb of Leavenworth, Kansas, Sandra Gilmore and husband Richard of North English, Marcia Jackson and husband Rex of Walcott and Joen Bayliss and husband Gary of Keota; step daughter: Carole Kerkove and husband Arland of La Crescenta, California; 21 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren and brother: Donald Finch of Moline, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; daughter: Darlene Funk; two step sons: Charles and Faye Vorhauer; two brothers: Chester and John Finch; two sisters: Ethel Glore and Opal Doolin and one great great granddaughter. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with Rev. Jerry Ulin officiating. Burial will be at Bailey Cemetery near Keswick. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English is handling the arrangements.
