Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes M. Murphy, 86, a resident of Davenport will be Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 10:30 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell, Iowa at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Visitation is Wednesday, April 23rd from 3-6 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be offered at 6:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:15 am. Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or Assumption High School Embracing Our Future K-12. Mrs. Murphy passed away unexpectedly, at her home, on Sunday, April 20th 2008. Agnes Mary Brophy was born November 18, 1921 in Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Leo E. and Margaret A (Walsh) Brophy. She married Lawrence Murphy on September 27, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside, Iowa. He preceded her in death November 28, 2004. Agnes was a graduate of the former Marycrest College and had attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She began her teaching career in rural Iowa, in a one-room schoolhouse. She later worked in the Davenport School District, retiring in 1985. Agnes was a member of the church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished her time with her family and friends. Those left to honor her memory are her children and their spouses; her two daughters, Patricia and Kenneth Ellis, Blue Springs, MO, Maureen Murphy, Norfolk, VA; her three sons, Michael Murphy, Chicago, IL, Dennis and Cheryl Murphy, Atchinson, KS, and Brian and Shirley Murphy, Hollister, CA; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Ed) Burke, Bettendorf, Rosie Pederson, Iowa City, and Loretta (Jerry) Glowacki, PleasantValley; two brothers, Martin (Pat) Brophy, Columbus Junction, IA and Edward Brophy, Riverside, IA. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry, a sister, Theresa Werthmann and two brothers, John and Frank Brophy. May they rest in peace.
