Mrs. Anna McKusker, better known to her many friends as "Grandma" McKusker, passed away at the home near Ladora, Friday night, September 4, following a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Ladora, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. S. E. Cole in charge. Burial was made in the Ladora ceme...
Anna Mumby was born in the village of Kirmington, Lincolnshire, England on the 8th day of January 1840 and departed this life at her home two and a half miles north east of Ladora at 9:30 p. m., September 4, 1925, at the age of 85 years 7 months and 26 days.
At the age of twelve she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mumby, to America and settled at Clinton County, Iowa. In March, 1856, she was united in marriage to James McKusker. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom still survive, the youngest son dying in infancy. In August 1857, she came with her husband and settled in Honey Creek township, Iowa county, Iowa, where she spent the rest of her life.
She was baptised in infancy and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she was a faithful member.
Her husband preceded her in death January 15, 1914. She leaves to mourn her loss seven children, C Chas. of Oelwein, Iowa; Frank of Molina, Ill.; John of Altoona, Iowa; Mrs. T. A. Clements of Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Blanche Lomery [see alternate spelling] of Concordia, Kansas and Mrs. T. A. Carey of Marengo, Iowa. Besides her children she leaves 32 grand children and 75 great grand children.
Since her husband's death, she has made her home with her daughter, Martha, Mrs. T. A. Carey) where she was faithfully and lovingly cared for.
She has come to her grave like a shock of corn cometh in its season. She has died the death of the righteous and her last end was like theirs. She shall drink from goblets of gold of the river of the water of life freely.
Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. John McKusker and daughter of Altoona; Mr. Frank McKusker of Moline; Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKusker of Oelwein, Mrs. Fannie Clements of [L]incoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Blanche Lowrie of Concordia, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. John McKusker of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKusker of Davenport; Howard and Karl Kruse of Thornburg; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stowell, Mr. and Mrs. Will Sherlock and Mr. and Mrs. Alva McGuire of Arlington, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John McMann of Coleridge, Neb.; and Mrs. Frank Shaull of Marengo.
