Raymond Frederick Axmear, was born December 3, 1920, near North English, Iowa, the son of Fred S. and Alma F. (Oldaker) Axmear. He attended Porter school and graduated from Keswick High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945.He received the Purple Heart and a Silver Star. On December 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lois Irene DeBont at the Keswick United Methodist Church. He has farmed in the North English and Keswick areas throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Keswick United Methodist Church and the American Legion, James Murphy Post #319. Raymond died on Friday, March 14, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 11 days. He is survived by his wife Lois of Keswick; a daughter Cynthia (Galen) Reding of Mapleton, MN; a granddaughter Abby and fiancé Malachi Dahms; 3 sisters: Betty Davies of Sun City, AZ, Lois Miller of Woodburn, OR and JoAnn Moore of Keswick. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Kenneth Axmear and Dale Axmear; and 4 sisters: Hazel Hansen, Merna Peet, Helen Dunnick and Jean McPherson. Celebration of Life Service will be on 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Keswick United Methodist Church in Keswick. Rev. Richard Sperring and Richard Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery rural Keswick. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5-8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. A general memorial fund has been established.
