Irene Bishop Trotter, age 92, of Ainsworth died Saturday March 15, 2008 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

Celebration of Life services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday March 20, 2008 at the Ainsworth Community Church in Ainsworth with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Wednesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Memorials have been established to Ainsworth Community Church or Ainsworth Opera House. Irene was born on February 24, 1916 in Marengo, Iowa the daughter of George and Maude (Fiester) Bishop. She was a 1934 graduate of Marengo High School and graduated from Coe College in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. Irene married Lawrence H. (Larry) Trotter on July 5, 1942 in the Marengo Methodist Church.

Mrs. Trotter’s first vocal music teaching position was in Ainsworth where she boarded at the Trotter boarding house and met Larry, her husband of 66 years. She also taught at Crawfordsville and West Liberty before returning to Ainsworth to teach Vocal Music and German. When the Ainsworth School District consolidated with Riverside to form Highland Community School District in 1965 Irene, retained her teaching position. She was an active member of Ainsworth Community Church and directed the church choir more then 40 years. She was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and ACT (Ainsworth Community Together.)

Irene is survived by her husband, Larry Trotter of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, George Trotter and wife Deanna of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughters, Margy Trotter of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Jane Trotter, Danville, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lawrence J. (Jack) Trotter in 1997; and her brother, Rex Bishop.
