Memorial services for Grace Estella (Riherd) Mabie, Knoxville, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home, Knoxville. She died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Griffins Nursing Home, Knoxville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City, Ariz., at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Grace was a cheerleader and also a member of the National Honor Society at Knoxville High School, where she graduated in 1934.

She married William E. Mabie Aug. 4, 1935, in Missouri. The couple lived in Knoxville following their marriage. After William’s return from World War II, they moved to Springfield, Ill., where they owned the Sangamon Inn in the early 1950s. They later purchased the Coast to Coast store in Williamsburg, which they ran for 25 years. In 1978, they retired to Sun City, Ariz., returning to Knoxville in 1981.

She was an avid golfer, bridge player and bowler. She belonged to Eastern Star and several bridge groups in Knoxville and was a member of the Presbyterian Church there. She also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and riding on the back of her son Rick’s Harley Davidson.

Mabie is survived by one son, William “Rick” Mabie, and special friend Renae Gray, Newton, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Marla Kaye Miller; two sisters, Ruby Murphy and Bernice Buckley, and three brothers, John, James Kenneth and Arthur Riherd.
