Homestead- LaJune Katherine Wolter was born June 30, 1931, near Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Amelia (Bockelmann) Nemitz. She was baptized on July 19, 1931, and confirmed on March 25, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church - Hanover, near Charter Oak. LaJune attended Concordia High School and College in Seward, NE. On June 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Glenn F. Wolter, at St. Paul - Hanover, near Charter Oak. She received her first call to St. John’s in Homestead in 1954 teaching grades 1-4. Later she accepted a call to Trinity in Conroy, where she taught grades 5-8 and later grades 1-3. When the Lutheran Interparish School began in 1967, she became the first grade teacher and remained so until her retirement in 2007. LaJune was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, where she was very active teaching mid-week classes, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of numerous organizations such as: The Cedar Rapids Reading Council, Lutheran Education Association, Women’s Organization Delta Kappa Gamma, VFW #8797 Ladies Auxiliary and the Homestead Welfare Club. LaJune died Monday, February 18, 2008 at her home in Homestead after a battle with cancer at the age of 76 years. She is survived by her husband: Glenn of Homestead; two daughters: Jeanne Welsh of Williamsburg and Patti (David) Heitshusen of South Amana; 3 grandsons: William and Brett Heitshusen and Michael Welsh; a brother Edwin (Frances) Nemitz of Charter Oak; 2 sister-in-laws: Betty (Robert) Roemig and Mary Wolter all of Homestead; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, William Welsh and a brother-in-law, Jerry Wolter. Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 pm on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be form 4-7 pm on Wednesday, with a V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 4 pm, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for: the Lutheran Interparish School, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Essence of Life Hospice or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
