Keota - Francis Eugene Lyle, was born August 8, 1920, near Keota, Iowa, the son of Guy and Ruth (Rittenhouse) Lyle. He attended Kinross school and graduated from Keota High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1945. During his service time he was in the European Theater, he was wounded and then received the Purple Heart Award and the Good Combat Metal. He was united in marriage to Theola Waechter on September 19, 1945, at the Ss. Peter and Paul Rectory. They lived and farmed in the Keota area all of his life also working a number of years at the Kinross Elevator. They moved to Williamsburg in January 2008. He was a member of the VFW Post #4716 in Keota. He had a great love for God, his country and spending time with his grandchildren. Francis died on Monday, February 11, 2008, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, after complications of age and health problems Francis lived 87 years, 6 months and 3 days. He is survived by his wife Theola of Williamsburg; 2 daughters: Brenda White of Ames and Franda Shorey of Council Bluffs; a son Dell Lyle of North English; 8 grandchildren; a brother Charles Lyle of Keota; 2 sisters: Reta Gullett of Indianapolis, IN and Shirley Bohr of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Richard and James. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 am on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota. Pastor James Stout, Pastor James Bringman and Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A general memorial fund has been established.
