Clovis L. Smith, 86, of Hartwick, died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Victor with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Fred Stiefel was the organist. Casket bearers were Randy Smith, Eric Van Buren, Jamie Smith, Dan Daniels, Neil Daniels, Josh Smith and Jordan Smith. Honorary bearers were Dawn Tallman, Tracy Schafbuch, Marilyn Gessner, Marsha Bean, Marlys Butler, Lori Schafbuch and Jacie Smith. Interment was in the Union Cemetery near Hartwick.

Memorials may be directed to the HLV Scholarship Fund or to Brooklyn Community Estate.

The Smith Funeral Home of Victor is handling arrangements.

Clovis was born on May 9, 1921, in Brooklyn, to Clarence and Luella Davidson Creps. She was raised in Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn schools.

On May 19, 1940, she was married to Ralph Smith in Brooklyn. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm in the Hartwick area. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and church and school activities.

Clovis was a member of the Hartwick Congregational Church, the Victor American Legion Auxiliary and the Hartwick Ladies Aid.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (John) Van Buren of Hartwick and Jean (Ray) Daniels of Eden Prairie, Minn.; two sons, Gary (Linda) Smith of Marengo and Kevin (Cindy) Smith of Victor; 14 grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Marcella Smith of Elberon; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Williams of Hartwick.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Roger Smith; and one brother, Francis Creps.
