Ruth Von Lienen, age 88 of Marengo died Wednesday morning, February 6, 2008 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Conroy, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, February 8, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the American Heart Association, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo or Amenity Hospice.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Von Lienen and wife Karen of Marengo, and Wayne Lienen and wife Kathy of Marengo; two daughters, Ferne Fields and husband Harlan of Conroy and Sharon Gunderson of St. Martin, MN; thirteen grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Blanche Powell of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Von Lienen, three brothers, Raymond, Milford and Wilford Schwarting; a son Donald and a grandson Scott.

Ruth Wilhelmina Mathilda Schwarting was born September 16, 1919 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Mathilda Hopp Schwarting. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in York Township and married William Von Lienen on September 9, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Williamsburg and Conroy area. Besides being a homemaker and mother, Ruth worked at the Ox Yoke Inn in Amana and later at the Farmers Co-op in Conroy. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy for many years. Ruth moved to Marengo in 1997 following her husband’s death and joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo.
