Visitation: 12 - 6 p.m., with the family present from 2 - 6 p.m., a rosary will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday January 20, 2008 at Smith Funeral Home in Victor
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2008 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor
Interment: following her service, January 21, 2008 at Calvary Cemetery in Victor

Mim was born on December 9, 1912, near Cascade, Iowa to John and Eva Klinkner Cavanaugh. She was raised on the family farm and later moved into Cascade. She graduated from St. Martin’s High School with the class of 1930. She was united in marriage to Charles J. Claeys on April 24, 1934, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade. The couple lived in Victor and she was a homemaker and mother of three children, Bill, John and Bette. Mim was a member of the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Victor, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Newman Study Club. She volunteered many hours at the Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City and the Victor Congregate Meals. Her enjoyments included playing bingo and cards with her friends, crocheting and quilting. Mim is survived by her children, Bette (Daryl) Fiser of Victor, and John (Beverly) Claeys of Omaha, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, Jim (Teresa) Claeys of Marengo, Iowa, Joe (Ellen) Claeys of Iowa City, Iowa, Molly Claeys of Omaha, Matt (Eleanor) Fiser of Jacksonville, Florida, Andrew Fiser and Katie Fiser, both of Victor; 5 great grandchildren, Jenny, Janet and Jessica Claeys of Marengo, Anthony Ward of Victor, and Mattias Fiser of Jacksonville, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Pat Claeys of Iowa City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Mim died on Friday, January 18, 2008, at the Brooklyn Community Estates in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was 95 years of age and she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles J. Claeys on July 5, 1985; one son, Bill Claeys on January 18, 1995; one granddaughter, Angela Fiser on October 20, 1998; her brothers, Fred and Bob Cavanaugh; and her sisters, Carrie Cavanaugh, Sister Joanes Cavanaugh BVM, Lulu O’Brien, and Eileen Digmann.

Memorials may be directed to the Mildred M. Claeys Memorial Fund.
