Ellen May McDowell, 78, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab died there Tuesday December 18, 2007 following a long illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Kurt Veenstra. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel today from 4-8 P.M.

Survivors include her children, Jimmy Van Deusen of Shellsburg, Charles Van Deusen of Florida, Larry Van Deusen (Ruth) of Cedar Rapids, Jerry Van Deusen (Vicki)of Swisher, Ray Van Deusen (Terri) of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Van Deusen (Amber)of Springville, Cyrus Van Deusen of Anamosa and Patricia Shahrivar (Naser) of Central City, step children, Kenneth Floyd McDowell Jr. of Williamsburg, Barbara Watts (Charles) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky and Pearl McDowell Alsman (Billy) of Danville, Kentucky, her siblings, Harold Foubert of Deep River, Vernon Foubert of St. Louis, Mo, and Mildred “Midge” Coolman of Franklin, Tennessee.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Lorna May, Dana, April, Jason, Eric, Cara, Kelly, Hannah, Micah, Kimberly, Nicholas, Danielle, Christina, Marie, Desiree, Cody, Paymon, Naseem, Toofawn, step grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Her parents, husband and a granddaughter preceded her in death.

Ellen was born August 1, 1929 in Iowa County, the daughter of Acil and Augusta Knipfer Foubert. She married Kenneth McDowell on November 5, 1964 in Union City, Tennessee. Ellen was a hard worker. She was employed at Montgomery Wards, starting at their downtown location and continuing on at Westdale Mall. She enjoyed woodworking, quilting, sewing, gardening and helping people. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
