Harlene L. Olson, age 79 of Brooklyn, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Brooklyn Community Estates in Brooklyn following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Jo of Brooklyn and Randy Jon of Marengo, and six grandchildren, Clint Olson, Jamie Hawker, Amy Olson, Henkle, Sonya Olson, Trevor Olson and Kayla Olson. Also surviving is a very dear friend, Sally Bruns of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Edwin, Everett and Duane Patterson; and 4 sisters, Norma Young, Darlene Patterson, Dorothy Johnson and Jeanne Roslund.

Harlene LaRose Patterson was born April 8, 1928 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Rosa Janssen Patterson. She graduated from Marengo High School and married William Harold Olson on November 5, 1947 in Conroy. The couple later divorced. Harlene was a nurse’s aid at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in the 1960’s. She then attended Marshalltown Community College, where she graduated with honors from the school of practical nursing. She then worked at the Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown for 10 years.
