Harold F. Calvin of Keystone Cedars, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, died at Keystone Cedars Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, of cancer after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Center Point United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Mike Ellison and Ken Graham. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, where a Masonic service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Gertrude; sister, Verva Vandecar of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Ann Peitzman (Fred) of Torrance, Calif., and Sue Harvey (Richard) of Fishers, Ind.; three grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.

Harold was born in North English, Iowa, on Feb. 20, 1920, to Frank and Eva Mae (Frye) Calvin. His mother died when he was an infant and his father later remarried Mattie Lutton. Harold graduated from Alburnett High School in 1938 and married Gertrude Fishel later the same year.

Harold was a retired farmer and lived in Center Point for many years before he and his wife moved into assisted living in Cedar Rapids in July 2006. At various times, he also worked for L.J. Dennis & Sons Elevator, Murdoch Funeral Home, Dufoe Builders and Linn County Road Maintenance. Harold was a faithful lifetime member of Center Point United Methodist Church, Center Point Historical Society, member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Masonic lodges in Center Point and Shellsburg, where he was past Master. He was proud of achieving the 32nd degree in Masonry and his 63 years as a Mason were a highlight in his life.

Memorials may be directed to Center Point United Methodist Church in memory of Harold.
