Helen A. Hartzell, age 82 of Leawood, KS and formerly of North English died following an extended illness on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English with the Rev. Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery, rural Webster, IA. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 22nd, from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Helen is survived by a son Mick Hartzell of Raymore, MO; daughters Marsha Stillwell of Gladstone, MO and Chris Bentz of Leawood, KS; a sister Theresa O’Rourke of North English, IA; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, 7800 Foster, Overland Park, KS 66204. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhhomes.com under obituaries. Helen was born on May 31, 1925 in Iowa County, IA a daughter of John Edward and Mary (Minnie) Healey Agnew. She graduated from Keswick High School in 1943 and later attained a teaching certificate and taught in a country school. Helen was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lyle Hartzell in 1946. They lived in Iowa until 1962 when they moved to Overland Park, KS. Helen retired from the USDA and had also been employed at the Jones Store for ten years. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in May 1995; brothers John, Emmett, Bernard, Leo & Harry Agnew; sisters Anna Agnew, Margaret Costello, Mary Dawson. Alice Herr, Ethel Harris and infant sisters Charlotte and Bernadette Agnew.
