Phyllis Jane Baethke, the daughter of Alanson Calvin and Frances Lavina Sampson McCay, was born August 21, 1933 in Keswick, Iowa. Phyllis grew up in and around Keswick and graduated from Keswick Senior High School.
On December 28, 1951 Phyllis was united in marriage with Floyd W. Baethke at the Methodist Church in Keswick. Phyllis devoted her life to her husband and family. She was her families Superfan, who faithfully and enthusiastically attended her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Phyllis was a dedicated employee of Brownell’s, Inc. for 18 years. She had worked in the Packaging and Shipping Department. Phyllis was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and sitting in the backyard with Floyd watching the flowers and birds.
Death came to Phyllis on September 5, 2007 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. She was 74 years old. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; four children in infancy; a son, Gene Baethke; a brother-in-law, Joe Bish and her aunt.
Those left to honor Phyllis’ memory include her husband of 55 years, Floyd Baethke of Montezuma, IA; her sons and daughters-in-law, Karen (Fleming) Baethke of New Virginia, IA, Mark and Liz (Beckman) Baethke of Urbandale, IA, Larry and Denise (Gibson) Baethke of Williamsburg, IA, Greg and Dawnetta (Olson) Baethke of Spencer, IA; her fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer and Nate Ogbourne, Brianna and Lonnie Weldon, Chad and Laura Baethke, Autumn, Calvin, Nolan, Jackson, Tyler, Dustyn, Cody, Cade, Payton, Carson, Kramer Baethke; her three great grandchildren, Archer and Riley Ogbourne and Lilly Baethke and her sister, Patricia McCay-Bish; her sister-in-law, Viola George and her brothers-in-law, Mal and Marge Baethke and Tobe and Marilyn Baethke.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10, 2007 at 10:30 am at Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River, IA. Friends may call at the Watts Funeral Home after 1 pm Sunday. The family will be present from 4 pm till 6 pm Sunday at the Watts Funeral Home. Memorials may be designated in Phyllis name.
Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, south of Victor
