Kathryn L. Martin, age 96, died Wednesday August 29, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM Saturday September 1, 2007, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Brian Shepley and Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Friends may call Friday, August 31, 2007 from 4 to 7 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 7 P.M. at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to Mercy Hospice, Cedar Rapids or a charity of the donor’s choice.

She is survived by three children Kathleen Martin of Newport News, VA, Bill Martin and wife Joan of Marengo, IA, and Monica Wagner and husband Monte of Blairstown, IA; nine grandchildren; Daniel and Shawn Martin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Stephanie Cowl of Newport News, VA, Michael Holloway of Newport News, VA and Eileen Holloway of Atlanta GA, Teresa Clayton and husband Monte of Urbandale, IA, Larry Martin and wife Julie of Waterloo, IA, Michael Martin of Marengo, and Mary Oberreuter and husband Kevin of Blairstown, IA; and five great-grandchildren, Mary and Michael Clayton of Urbandale, Austin, Jordan and Conner Martin of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence in 1974, a son Larry in 1993, a daughter Theresa in infancy, three brothers, Howell, Glenn, and Owen Simmons, and three sisters Elizabeth Caldwell, Mary Brickley, and Helen in infancy.

Kathryn L. Simmons was born May 26, 1911, in rural Iowa county Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Fannie Delzel Simmons. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1929. Kathryn worked as a secretary for the State Highway Commission. Kathryn married Lawrence William Martin on August 9, 1932 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years.

Kathryn was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, the Altar and Rosary Society and the local bridge club. Kathryn enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards, fishing, and watching sports on television especially the Green Bay Packers.
