Arthur H. “Art” Stanerson, age 90, formerly of Conroy, died Sunday morning, July 22, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Conroy Park (C.C.R.), or First Lutheran Church, Conroy.

He is survived by a brother Walter Stanerson of Williamsburg, a sister Ethel Hartz of Marengo, a sister-in-law, Ethel Stanerson of Williamsburg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ed Stanerson, a sister Helen Overbaugh and brother-in-laws Don Overbaugh and Maurice Hartz, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Mae Stanerson.

Arthur Halvor Stanerson was born March 1, 1917 in rural Conroy, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Staner and Helen Mae Groesbeck Stanerson. He attended Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Camp Callan in San Diego, CA. Art attended diesel engine school and entered into partnership with his brothers Walt and Ed at Stanerson Garage and Oil Company in Conroy. He drove school bus for nine years. He later operated the fuel and gas truck for Conroy Co-op until his retirement in 1976. Due to failing health, Arthur moved to Rose Haven Nursing Home in 2003.

Art enjoyed playing golf and the coffee times at Stanerson Implement, in Conroy. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles. He liked to spend time at his boathouse in Cedar Rapids, and enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter.

Art was a member of First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, the Stellapolis Lodge #391 of Williamsburg, and the Marengo American Legion Post #76.
