Roy Edward HannonBorn in Marengo, Iowa on Sep. 13, 1924.Departed on Jun. 3, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.Roy Edward Hannon, 82, of 1209 74th St. NE, Cedar Rapids, died June 3, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital following complications of a stroke. Funeral Services 1:00 PM, Friday, June 8, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bob Westfall will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites by American Legion Hanford Post # 5. A reception will immediately follow the graveside committal at the Cedar Memorial Family Center and Library.Surviving are Marilyn, his wife of 43 years, one daughter Kelly Hannon Siegel and husband John of Cedar Rapids, one grandson Travis Johnson of Cedar Rapids, 2 stepsons Dennis Kreutzer of Cedar Rapids, and Steve Kreutzer and wife Penny of Marion.He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hannon and Wanda Hoyt, and his first wife Dorothy Miller.Roy E. Hannon was born the son of Thomas Hannon and Wanda Mitchell on September 13, 1924 in Marengo, Iowa. He attended school in Marengo, where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football, and was an Iowa Counties All State fullback.In 1943 Roy joined the U.S. Army Paratroopers serving with the 82nd Air-Bourne making 13 jumps over Germany and Belgium. He was injured and spent several weeks in a London hospital. He was awarded the Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars.In 1951 Roy married Dorothy Miller in Vancouver, WA. She preceded him in death in 1962. In 1963 he married Marilyn Kreutzer in Cedar Rapids.Roy was employed by Freuhauf for 13 years and retired from Executive Plaza after 25 years.He was an avid deer hunter, mushroom hunter, and fisherman. For many years he and Marilyn went to Northome, MN, Lake Rathbun in Iowa, and finally camped at Coralville for 17 years. He loved to watch the Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed his many fishing outings with his grandson Travis, and after each trip they made a stop together for cheeseburgers.Roy was a member of the American Legion Hanford Post # 5, and the Disabled American Veterans.
