Marguerite “Peg” Crane, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Nils Hernandez. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Parnell, Iowa.Survivors include her husband, Cletus; a brother, Jim McCarty of Parnell; a sister, Therese Weber of Washington, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Cecil Long of Parnell; several nieces and nephews; and her special friends and neighbors, Jim and Doris Jacobs and Joyce Williams, all of Cedar Rapids.She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul McCarty; and a sister, Bernadette Long.Peg was born August 23, 1926, the daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Weldon) McCarty, in rural Parnell, Iowa. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1944. After graduation she was a country school teacher. On April 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to Cletus Crane in Parnell. After her marriage, Peg worked as a bookkeeper and ran the postal substation for Claxton Pharmacy, retiring after 40 years of service. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she managed the gift shop, and the American Legion Auxillary.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, Iowa, 52233, in memory of Peg.
