Helen M. Barry, age 93 of Oxford died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Lakeview Village in Amana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be from 3 to 8pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service – Oxford Chapel where there will be a Catholic Society of Foresters Service at 4pm and a parish vigil service held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Mary’s Church, Super 60’s Group, or Oxford First Responders. Helen Marie Irwin Barry was born February 14, 1914 in rural Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Leona (Williams) Irwin. She attended rural Iowa county schools and graduating from St. John’s Catholic School in Victor, Iowa in 1932. She married Thomas E. Barry February 27, 1935, in Victor. The couple moved to Johnson County that year, where she has been a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, member of the Super 60’s Club, National Catholic Society of Foresters, and enjoyed her many years of being in card club in Oxford. Her family includes three sisters-in-law, Mary Irwin of Iowa City, Lorraine Irwin of Victor, and Eileen Irwin of Northeast, MD, several nieces and nephews; and longtime dear friends, Leanne and Raymond “Bud” Miller of Oxford and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tom on January 29, 1997; 4 sisters, and 6 brothers.
