Walter H. Kopf, 87 died Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where military rites will be conducted by the Hanford American Legion Post 5. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel and for an hour prior to services Tuesday at the chapel.

Walter was born August 25, 1919 on a farm in rural Iowa County, the son of William and Anna Heager Kopf. He graduated from Norway High School. Walter joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He married Betty Hawkins on April 9, 1945 in Marengo . He worked for Wilson and Company for many years.

Walter is survived by his wife Betty Kopf of Marengo; daughter Kay (Ted) Burr of Vinton; son Joseph (Sharon) Kopf of Owensville, MO; grandchildren Ted (Lori) Burr III of Belle Plaine; Kristie Herman of Marengo; Joseph W. Kopf II of St. Louis, MO; step greatgrandchildren Amanda and Brad Recker of Belle Plaine; and his sisters Alice (Bill) Barker of Cedar Rapids, Anna Mae Binley of Marion, Mayme Cechura of Cedar Rapids, Irene Bahr of Cedar Rapids, and Agnes Klein of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ruthie Kopf, Blanche Parvin, and Helen Binz; brother George Kopf; and a half brother Fred Puegher.
