George W. McCallister, age 94, died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2007 at St. Mary’s Community Center, Williamsburg with Rev. James Parks of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Williamsburg officiating. Burial will be in the Pilot Grove Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; a daughter, Angie McCallister of Williamsburg; two sons, George Jr. of Parnell and Dan and wife Kathy of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Carrie Meade and husband Joe of Parnell, Kati Friederichs and husband Andy of Fort Worth, TX, Dustin McCallister of Austin, TX, Emmy Quaintance and husband Eric of Solon, Jeremy Mumm of Williamsburg and Tammy Larson of Williamsburg; 6 great-grandchildren, Austin and Allison Quaintance, McCall, Olivia, Gable and Max Meade; three brothers, William and wife Donna of Ladora, Daryle and wife Lila of Williamsburg, and Donald and wife Marion of Marion, IA; and a sister, Ruby Schwarting of Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Curtis and Wayne and three sisters, Opal Conn, Rita Butler and Eileen Wagner, and a grandson, Nathan Wiebold.

George Washington McCallister was born October 26, 1912 in rural Williamsburg, the son of John and Ocie Martin McCallister. He received his education in the Iowa County schools. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Hadenfeldt on February 16, 1940 in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years. He enjoyed singing and dancing, gardening, tending his crops, trapping and especially the fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Williamsburg.
