NORTH ENGLISH-Catherine Dennis, age 83, of North English, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Catherine was born May 20, 1923, in Iowa County, to Arnold and Gertrude (Faas) Wagner and graduated from Keswick High School in 1940. On May 9, 1942, she married Harry E. Dennis in What Cheer. A homemaker, Catherine lived her entire life in the North English community. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, North English V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Millersburg American Legion Auxiliary, where she held various offices. Survivors include three children: Karen L. Grove of Cedar Rapids, Jerry E. (Lynne) Dennis of Keswick and Connie Jo (Jay) Peiffer of South English; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother: Gene (Donna) Wagner of Rockford, Illinois; one sister: Jo Ellen (Lee) Carder of Weslaco, Texas and one brother-in-law: Stan Pedersen of Springville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harry in 1987; brother: Robert and sister: Norine. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North English with Rev. Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be at the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English is handling the arrangements..
