Otis was born the son of Jack and Anna Swank Smith on April 11, 1915, in Wright, Iowa. In his youth, he made his home with John and Alma Brown and worked on the Brown family farm much of his life.
In 1977, he became a resident at Hillside Estates in Williamsburg. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. After the decline of his health, he moved to the Williamsburg Care Center in 2005. Otis’ enjoyments included singing and yodeling, listening to country western music, and attending auto races and rodeos.
Otis is survived by Bill and Marlys Brown of North English, Iowa, Tom and Janet Brown of Robbins, Iowa, Kathryn Brown of Victor, and Marg and Ed McAdam of Victor; and his friends at Hillside Estates in Williamsburg.
