Harold R. Gunzenhauser, age 86 of Marengo, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2006, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post #76. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his son, Michael and wife Gena of Marengo, his daughter, Carol Ann Pinion and husband Ronnie of Reidsville, North Carolina, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2003, four brothers, Roy, Carl, Louis and Clarence, and three sisters, Margaret Allen, Edna Kuhnle, and Lorene Denzler.

Harold Russell Gunzenhauser was born October 30, 1920 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Charles William and Margaret (Burgy) Gunzenhauser. He received his education in the Iowa County schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was wounded and then stationed in Liverpool, England. He received the Purple Heart. Harold married Ann Frances Brehany on January 21, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed southwest of Marengo for over 40 years.

Harold was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. He loved watching wrestling on television and also enjoyed stock car racing. He spent many hours discussing politics and enjoyed spending time with his family.
