Leon D. Jones, 66, of 3201 Elaine Ave. NW, died Sunday,Oct. 1, 2006, in University Hospitals, Iowa City, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty"; two sons, Darrell Jones and Will (Lisa)Jones, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Eric and Amanda Jones; a brother-inlaw, Harold Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew, Jeff Mitchell of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Mitchell.
Leon was born April 3, 1940, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of William and Amanda (Snyder) Jones. He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On Nov. 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Barber in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Suburban Lumber for 32 years.
Leon loved the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR and was an avid gardener.
