Williamsburg–Irene A. Iburg was born April 21, 1913 on a farm in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Maria (Mae) Schmidt Voelkel. She graduated from Victor High School and also graduated from Paris Beauty School in Cedar Rapids in 1931. Irene worked at a beauty shop in Victor for 10 years, then Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and later at AAA in Williamsburg. Irene was united in marriage to Arthur H. Iburg on July 14, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. Together the couple resided in Williamsburg for a number of years before they moved to Florida. Irene became a resident at the Villa’s of Gulf Breeze 9 months ago. Irene was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg and in her earlier years being active in the church and Altar Guild. Irene also enjoyed Bowling and being at the Sport Hill Country Club. Irene died Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Gulf Breeze Hospital in Gulf Breeze, Florida after a brief illness at the age of 93 years. She is survived by two sons: Herbert (Jeanne) Iburg of Groton, Massachusetts and Roger Iburg of Gulf Breeze; 5 grandchildren: Matthew, Patrick, Kimberly, Melanie and Andrew; a step great grandchild and a sister: Loretta Groff of Sun City West, Arizona. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1997 and two brothers: Albert and Harvey. Graveside Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 21, 2006 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service are caring for services.
