Ernest "Spud" Allan Shaull was born April 21, 1923, in Ladora, IA and died Saturday, August 05, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, IA. His parents were Ernest Eugene Shaull and Emma Matilda Fiester Shaull.
Spud received his education in Ladora graduating from high school in 1940.
He served with the US Army from February 9, 1943 to February 3, 1946 and was discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He participated in the European Theater of Operations where he was wounded. Spud received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
On January 31, 1943, Spud was married to Phyllis Louise Mercer at Galt, Missouri. Spud and Phyllis lived in Ladora for over 59 years together and were the parents of five children, David, Harley, John, Mary and Lorrie.
Spud ran a gas station in Ladora and then became a rural mail carrier, first at Ladora and then in Brooklyn retiring in 1984. Following his retirement he worked at Koehn Motor Co. in Victor for several years.
Spud received Christ as his Savior at the age of twenty-six and was a member of Victor Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association and the 87th Infantry Acorn Division. He served as mayor of Ladora for ten years and was the treasurer of the Victor Co-operative Telephone Company for 35 years. He enjoyed traveling, his friends, spendmg time with his family and cars.
His parents; his wife, who died December 27, 2002; two sisters, Donna Sims and Lucille Feller; three brothers, Gerald "Gus" Shaull, Harlan "Gump" Shaull and Edwin "Jake" Shaull; and a grandson Tyler Shaull preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, David and Linda Shaull of Locust Grove, OK, Harley and Dee Shaull of Troy, MO, John and Sharon Shaull of Winterset, Mary and Curtis Hebron of Puyallup, W A, and Lorrie and Marshall Kurschner of Caseville, MI; a brother, Wayne Shaull of Ladora; two sisters, Maxine Tranberry of Blairstown and Kate George of Fairfax; thirteen grandchildren, Tony, Tim, Tom, Carson, Loretta, Abigail, Mindy, Danny, Adam, Tandi, Rachel, Emily, and Matthew; and
ten great grandchildren, Indy, Nandry, Dalane, Julia, Shandra, Josiah, Johnathan, Caden, Kayla and Theodore.
