Jessie Edna Tharp, 98, of Victor, died July 29, 2006, at Rosehaven Nursing Home in Marengo. A graveside service and burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at Highland Cemetery, in Mystic, Iowa with the Rev. Joan Ervin, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Iowa, officiating. The daughter of Marshall Earl and Myrtle Gilgrass Mickey, she was born December 3, 1907, in Mystic, Iowa. She was a 1925 graduate of Centerville High School. On May 19, 1929, she was married to Pearl Austin Tharp, in Centerville. The couple made their home in Moulton and she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper with Peatman Plumbing in Centerville. She moved to Victor in 1985. Jessie was an active member of the Centerville United Methodist Church. She was a member of United Methodist Women, the Women's Club, Alice Cheeney Missionary, and for 29 years she served as superintendent of the church nursery. She was also a member of a Birthday Club. While living in Victor she attended the Victor Baptist Church for a time. Jessie loved to knit and crochet and during World War II she knitted over 100 items for the American Red Cross. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley McNeish of Victor; two grandchildren, James McNeish and his wife Kristina of Iowa City and Trudi McNeish of Victor; three great-grandsons, Jonah, Elijah, and Seth McNeish; one sister-in-law, Eunice Mickey of Centerville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, James McNeish; one sister, Twila Haines; two brothers, James and Les Mickey; and a brother-in-law, Bob.
