Daisy Marie Johnston was born on April 18, 1909 near Oklahoma City, OK, a daughter of Joseph A. and Ida M. Ballard Cobb. When she was 4 years old she moved with her family by covered wagon to North English, IA. Daisy attended and graduated from North English High School in 1929. She was united in marriage to Carl Joseph Johnston in Marengo, IA on February 11, 1930. They farmed in the Holbrook and North English communities. They moved to their home in North English in February 1970. In addition to their daughter Geraldine, Carl and Daisy welcomed into their home and raised as family: Laurine Hanchett, Keith Reif, Regina Barschenger, and Ernest, Raymond & Francis Johnston. Carl preceded her in death in March 1988. Daisy was a member of the North English United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and fishing when possible. Daisy worked making breakfasts and doing dishes for over 30 years at Don & Jerry’s Restaurant and later Butch’s Restaurant in North English. She called it her second home. Daisy became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in February 2002. She lived 97 years, 2 months and 9 days. Daisy is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Van Dee of North English, IA; three grandchildren: Connie Greene of Wichita, KS; Debbie Bombei of North English; Terry (Roxie Miller) Van Dee of North English, IA; 6 great grandchildren: Angela Hester, Michelle Martin, Elizabeth (Tom) Spielbauer, Zachory Greene, Justine (Alan) Munger and Brittney Haworth; and 9 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Donald Van Dee; a granddaughter Barbara Van Dee, sisters Margaret Cobb, Thelma Claypool, Violet Wilson and a brother Clyde Cobb.

She Attended and graduated from North English High School in 1929. She was united in Marriage to Carl Joseph Johnston in Marengo, IA on Feb. 11, 1930.

They farmed in the Holbrook and North English Communities. Then moved to North English in Feb. 1970. They had one daughter Geraldine.

Carl proceeded her in death in March 1988.

Daisy worked making breakfast and doing dishes for over 30 years at Don & Jerry's Restaurant and later Butch's Restaurant in North English.

She called it her second home. Daisy became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in February 2002. Daisy died following a short illness on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at the Care Center. She lived 97 years

2 months and 9 days.

She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Van Dee: 3 grandchildren: Connie Greene; Debbie Bombei; Terry Van Dee; 6 great grandchildren Angela Hester, Michelle Martin, Elizabeth (Tom) Spielbauer, Zachory Green, Justine (Alan) Munger and Brittney Haworth; 9 great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son in law, a granddaughter Barbara Van Dee, sisters Maraget Cobb, Thelma Claypool, Violet Wilson and a brother Clyde Cobb.
