Obituary – Miss Clara Eilers
Cushing – Funeral services for Miss Clara Eilers were held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chester, S. D. on August 5, with Rev. Paul Schornae officiating. Burial was in the Chester Cemetery. Clara Marie Helen Eilers was born July 12, 1907 near Craig, Iowa. She moved to South Dakota with her parents in 1917 and spent the greater part of her life in the Chester community. When a child she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, of which she always remained a faithful member. She attended school in Moody County, S. D., and later graduated from the Chicago School of Nursing. The past ten years she worked at her profession at hospitals in Mason City, Sioux City, Sibley, Correctionville and Cushing, Iowa. Besides her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Eilers of Chester, she is survived by five brothers and six sisters, John of Seattle, Wash., Fred of Mooreland, Okla., Alvin Mient and Raymond of Chester, Mrs. Norma Glipshi of Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Verlan Ferrara of Baton Rouge, La., Velda of Cushing, Edna of Seattle, Wash., Laura of Chester, and Martha of Kenosha, Wis., and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, the late Senator Herman Eilers, and one brother and two sisters who died in infancy.
