Agnes Bresnahan Beers, age 91, of Arthur, Iowa passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 4:45 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Christensen -Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Agnes Bresnahan Beers was born December 29, 1926, in Section 13 of Corwin Township of Ida County, Iowa. She was one of nine children born to Raymond and Hilda (Ullrich) Bresnahan. Agnes graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1944. After high school graduation, Agnes worked for a year at the Mitchell Faust Advertising Agency in Chicago, IL. She then returned to Ida Grove and was employed by the Ida County Rural Electric Cooperative for 44 years. On February 18, 1947, Agnes was united in marriage to Burdette Avery Beers at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, IA. The couple lived in Ida Grove until 1968, then they moved near Battle Creek, IA. They lived there for two years. In 1970, they moved to the new home they built in Arthur, IA where she was currently residing. For many years, the couple enjoyed spending time at their summer homes on East Lake Okoboji and Storm Lake where Agnes enjoyed sunbathing near the water. Agnes liked to do research and was known as the family historian. She enjoyed drawing, calligraphy, and listening to 1940s big band jazz and swing music. She relished her daily coffee club chats at Albrecht’s Pharmacy (which later moved to Food Pride) where she learned what current events were going on. Agnes treasured her dachshund Fritzie. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Left to cherish her memory include her brothers John Bresnahan of Des Moines, IA and Donald (Marilyn) Bresnahan of Greendale, WI; sisters Carol (Pryor Shaughnessy) Bresnahan of Englewood, CO and Linda Bresnahan of New York, NY; sister-in-law Theresa Bresnahan of Ida Grove,IA; many nieces and nephews; and her special family Shawn (Deb) Thies of Phoenix, AZ, Kayla (Andrew) Danner of Scottsdale, AZ, Levi (Alex) Thies and their children Cal and Blaire of Odebolt, IA and Kelsey (AJ) Tillotson and their children Kendal and Harper of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Hilda Bresnahan; husband Burdette Beers, brothers Leonard, Robert (Priscilla), Roger and Richard Bresnahan; sisters-in-law Barbara Bresnahan, Gloria Bresnahan and Sharon Husted; brother-in-law Eugene (Ila) Beers and Joseph Druffel.
