(November 27, 1929 - March 30, 2013)Gwendolyn Johnk, age 83, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Chad Lierman will officiate, with burial to follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Born November 27, 1929, in Arthur, Iowa, Gwendolyn Delons Johnk was the daughter of Clarence and Florence (Babcock) Hoaglund. She grew up in Arthur and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1948. On March 23, 1953, Gwendolyn was united in marriage to Lawrence Johnk in Nogales, Arizona. The couple lived in Arizona and California for several months, then returned to Ida Grove where they raised their family of three children, Melanie, Kimberly, and Larry. Gwen worked as bookkeeper for Walt’s TV and also kept books for her husband’s trucking business. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed crafts, gardening, and embroidery. Gwen especially loved being a mother and grandmother and truly enjoyed time spent with her family. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Lawrence; three children, Melanie (Terry) Eason of Battle Creek, Kimberly (Richard) Smith of Altoona, and Larry Johnk and special friend Kasey Woebke of Ida Grove; 12 grandchildren, Thad (Dawn) Eason of Hickman, NE, Evan Eason of Cambridge, Gabe Eason of Battle Creek, Seth Eason of Ames, Michael Eason of Battle Creek, Patrick Eason of Battle Creek, Derek Smith of Overland Park, KS, Shawn Smith of Des Moines, Sarah (Cody) Lomholt of Earlham, Chelsey Johnk of Vermillion, SD, Butch (Kandi) Ehrig of Ida Grove, and Chris Ehrig of Rock Rapids; and eight great-grandchildren, Sierra, Blaise, and Gavin Eason, Addison and McKenzie Lomholt, and Nathan, Zach, and Dylan Ehrig. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarence Hoaglund; three sisters, Evora Hoaglund, Delores Wilson, and Yvonne in infancy; two granddaughters, Shannon and Michelle Ehrig; two great-grandsons, Joshua Ehrig and Colton Eason; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Johnk.
