Cushing – Anna Clausen Rekenthaler, daughter of Jurgen and Anna Clausen, was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on December 30, 1879, and died at St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City on February 17, 1947, at the age of 67 years, one month and 18 days. At the age of nine years she accompanied her parents, brothers and sisters to the United State. The family settled on a farm north of Cushing, and that was her home until she married Alfred Schuett and went to Missouri to reside. Mr. Schuett died a few months after their marriage, and in September, 1902, she was married to Joseph Albert Rekenthaler. They established their home in Cushing. He died in December 1930, and she continued to live here until November 1946, when she went to Sioux City to make her home with her daughter, Ruth. Mrs. Rekenthaler was a member of the Cushing Methodist Church, and had served on the official board of the church as a steward. She is survived by a son and a daughter, Francis and Ruth Rekenthaler of Sioux City; two grandsons, Donald and Richard Rekenthaler of Sioux City; one brother, Peter Clausen of Holstein, and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Hollander of Wheaton, Minn., and Mrs. Margaret Schaar of Jefers, Minn. The funeral was held at the Cushing Methodist church at two o’clock Thursday afternoon, February 20, with Rev. Arthur Dyson officiating. Miss Edna Lee, with Mrs. L. M. Wallace as accompanist, sang three hymns. Mrs. James Stoneking and Mrs. Arthu Durham were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Martin Henrichsen, Edwin Hummel, Vernon Stoneking, James Stoneking, Paul Hansen and Fred Baumann. Interment was made in the Cushing Cemetery.
