EmmaJean Conover-Schwarz, age 91, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at her residence of Ida Grove, Iowa.
EmmaJean (Lohff) Conover-Schwarz, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Berneta “Bert” (Madsen) Lohff, was born on August 6, 1927, on the family farm located in rural Ida County, Iowa.
EmmaJean attended rural country school and graduated from Galva High School. She continued her education at Buena Vista College for three months where she received her rural teaching certificate to teach country school. EmmaJean then started a career as a country school teacher in rural Ida County, near her family’s farm.
On March 28, 1946, EmmaJean was united into marriage to Forrest “Tootie” Conover in the Holstein Methodist Parsonage of Holstein, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm south of Holstein, Iowa and were blessed with four children Dennis, Vicki, Patsy, and Tammie. The family then relocated to Correctionville, Iowa where EmmaJean continued to raise her family. In July of 1978, Forrest suddenly passed away.
In January of 1986, EmmaJean married Paul Schwarz and welcomed Paul’s children Wendell, Ken, and Colleen. The couple settled in Ricketts, Iowa and then relocated to Ida Grove, Iowa where EmmaJean resided up to present.
EmmaJean loved to dance, tend to her flowers, and cook, especially baking pies. She was an accomplished quilter and loved making quilts for her family. The most important part of EmmaJean’s life was her “Big” family. They were her pride and joy.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Dennis R. Conover of Ida Grove, IA, Vicki M. Dixon of LeMars, IA, Patsy J. (David) Mathers of Correctionville, IA, Tammie L. (James) Gray of Sioux City, IA; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren with 1 on the way; sister Janice (Ken) Walker of Omaha, NE; stepchildren Wendell (Kathy) Schwarz of MI, Ken (Jolene) Schwarz of TX and Colleen Schwarz of CO; several step grandchildren and their families; extended family and friends.
EmmaJean was preceded in death by her parents Theodore “Ted” and Berneta “Bert” Lohff; husbands Forrest “Tootie” Conover and Paul Schwarz; grandson Nicklas Mathers; and son-in-law Don Dixon.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein, Iowa. A Visitation will be held on hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove Iowa.
