Was Found Dead
Hans Andresen Takes His Own Life
Was Temporarily Insane by Grief
Continually grieving over the loss a few months ago of his wife, the woman who had been his inseparable companion for years, Hans Andressen could stand the burden no longer, and on Tuesday afternoon while the family were all away attending the funeral of a neighbor, Mrs. Schuldt, he took his life by means of a strong cord. Passing the cord around his neck, he put it over a hook in the kitchen back of the range, and then knelt down and strangled himself to death. Mr. Andresen was never himself after the death of his good wife some months ago, and it was undoubtedly during a moment of temporary insanity, when he was crazed with grief, that he committed the act.
Born in Germany in 1824, Hans Andresen came to Crawford County [Iowa] 21 years ago and lived there many years. He and his wife came to Ida Grove two years ago and last fall she died. The funeral was held Friday from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Knutesen. There was a prayer at the home and then the body was buried in the Grant Cemetery, Rev. Amstein conducted the service. His daughter, Mrs. Knutesen, is the only living relative of the dead man. She has the sympathy of all in her terrible grief.
