ARTHUR—Funeral services for Margaret M. Sharkey, 87, of Arthur, were held Monday, March 28 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Chnstensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann officiated the service. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ida Grove.
Mrs. Sharkey died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, low. Born August 7, 1917, in Ida County. Iowa, Margaret Mary Shanks Sharkey was the daughter of John and Anna (Pinnekamp) Shanks She received her education in Odebolt, graduating from Odebolt High School in 1935 On January 17, 1942. she was united in marriage to Earl James Sharkey. The couple spent their married life together in the Arthur area, where they raised their family of eight children Most recently, Margaret was a resident of Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove.
Margaret worked in the kitchen at Odebolt-Arthur schools from 1970 to 1988 and also served as the Arthur librarian for 24 years. She was an active member of the Arthur Community Club, volunteered at Horn Memorial Hospital, and was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. Margaret enjoyed reading, sewing, and watching sports of all kinds, especially baseball.
Survivors include six children, Ken Sharkey of Algona, Shirley (Gary) Danielson of Jefferson, LaVon (Art) Houk of Arthur, Leslie (Cindy) Sharkey of Sac City, Janet (Craig) Fitch of Battle Creek, and Charles (Dee) Sharkey of Arcadia; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Rosie (Frank) Franzkowiak of Ida Grove, and Ruby (Bob) Shanks Shull of Sac City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl in 1982; two sons, Larry in 1991 and John (Jack) in 1998, and two brothers, Bernard and Edward.
