Final Rites Held For Mrs. Stanley Baker
Funeral services for Mrs. Stanley Baker were held Saturday, March 16, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The choir sang “Be Still, My Soul” and the congregation sang “Nearer My God to Thee.” They were accompanied by Mrs. Ray Schmidt. Rev. Frederick A. Wiese read the following obituary:
Martha Stegemann Baker, daughter of Otto and Minnie Stegemann was born at Schleswig on September 5, 1890, and died at the Denison Hospital on March 13. She grew up in this community. On February 17, 1920, she was married to Stanley Baker by the Rev. Frese of Denison. They have three children, Ralph, Dorothy and Shirley. After their marriage she and her husband lived for one year near Arthur and in 1921 moved to the farm southeast of town. In March 1951, the Bakers built their new home and she resided there until her death. Mrs. Baker was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and was active in her membership. She also had membership in the V. F. W. Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Stanley of Denison; three children, Ralph of Denison, Mrs. Jacque (Dorothy) Farnum of Tucson, Arizona, and Mrs. Howard (Shirley) Wilson of Casey, Iowa; one brother, Marcus Stegemann of Schleswig and six grandchildren. She attained the age of 66 years, 6 months and 8 days. Burial was made in Morgan Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Henry Braase, Peter Pickel, Louie Reimer, Fred Zage, Wm. J. Jepsen and Harry Jess.
