Obituary – John Frakes
John Frakes, the son of John P. and Fannie Calkins Frakes, was born on April 8, 1888 in Stockton, Rooks County, Kansas. In 1901 he came with his family to Kamrar, Iowa, in Hamilton County, and later to Swea City. He worked for the telephone company first at Webster City and later became the manager of the phone company in Mapleton. On March 4, 1924, he was united in marriage to Izora Leggett, and they bought the News Stand in Ida Grove. That had been his home ever since. He was preceded in death by his wife, Izora; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Frakes; two brothers, R. V. and Ed., and a sister, Arilla Frakes Lakin. He is survived by two brothers, Will of Fairmont, Minn., and Stran of Ray, Minn., two sisters, Grace Moorehouse of Whittier, Calif., and Jennie Wooden of Van Nuys, Calif., and many other relatives and friends.
