Edward Kastner, son of Carl F. Kastner and Anna nee Hofodietz, was born May 5, 1870 in Scott County, Iowa. When about two years of age he moved with his parents to Otter Creek Township, where he spent his entire life. He entered into eternal rest on May 21, at the age of 86 years and 16 days. The past few months he remained at the home of Lula Jahn in Denison where she cared for him until he passed away. On October 11, 1893, he was united in marriage to Lene Friedrichsen. The couple resided on a farm until 1923 when they moved to Schleswig. Mr. Kastner was baptized and confirmed in the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church, and although his health was such that it did not permit him to attend the services the past several years, he remained a faithful member of his church until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lene, one son, Robert, two brothers, Carl and August, two sisters, Caroline (Mrs. Julius Schroeder) and Minnie who died at the age of 18. He leaves to mourn his death, two sons, Louie and Gilbert, one daughter, Leota (Mrs. Lyle Worley), 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, one sister, Pauline (Mrs. Knud Friedrichsen) and one brother, Fred. Burial was made in the Morgan Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Burness Kastner, Orben Kastner, Verdell Kastner, Rawlo Kastner, Cyrenus Knief and Vernace Harm.
