Obituary – Lillie Jane Baxter
Lillie Jane Baxter was born in Ida County, April 23, 1878, the daughter of Robinson George and Esther Ann Baxter. She died very quietly at her apartment home Sunday forenoon, June 9, after having prepared her breakfast and washed the dishes. She was educated in the country schools, Sac City Institute, Buena Vista College and Lewis Institute, Chicago. She taught in the county and city schools in Galva. She served as Home Economics demonstration agent for the U.S. government during W. W. I. Later she held positions in “The Neighborhood House” in San Diego and in “Chino Junior Republic” in California. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star and was a past matron of the same. Also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove. Surviving are five brothers: James R. of Galva; Urban S. of Tyan; Wm. G. of Pacific Palisades, Cal.; Robert B. of Ida Grove and Luke J. of Galva. Also nine nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, in the Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. Carl Sinning, Manning, officiating. Past matrons of Eastern Star conducted the memorial service. Audrey Lochner sang, “The Eternal Goodness” and “Sunrise Tomorrow,” accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Courtright. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were all nephews, Stanley Baxter, Virgil Baxter, Gerald Baxter, Robert Baxter, Everett Baxter and Dr. N. K. Kinney.
