Merlin G. Gebers
(February 10, 1927 – November 12, 2020)

HOLSTEIN – Private graveside services for immediate family were held at the Holstein Cemetery in Holstein for Merlin G. Gebers, 93, of Holstein. The Rev. Bob Lewis officiated. There was no visitation. Burial was in the Holstein Cemetery.
Merlin G. Gebers was born Feb. 10, 1927, to John and Leona (Arp) Gebers. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein. He attended Lone Star School in rural Ida County. On Dec. 29, 1952, he married Elva Frahm and they farmed south of Holstein until buying their farm east of Holstein. That farm became a Century Farm in 2008 at the Iowa State Fair. Another big event was when his nephew, John of Oregon, found the Gebers family through Ancestry.com. It had been about 59 years since he had been with the family. What a great family reunion we had on Merlin’s farm in 2019. Merlin had a passion for all of his John Deere tractors. He raised cattle, hogs, chickens and grain. He also enjoyed having coffee with the other men in Holstein, playing cards and eating out, especially being with his family. He died Nov. 12, 2020, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elva, in 2017; and four brothers: Don, Willard, Wayne and Darrell. He will forever be remembered by his daughter, Karen, and her husband, Dean Werner of Holstein; his grandson, Matt Werner, and his wife, Molly; and their daughters, McKenzie and Jeannie.
