(October 20, 1916 – November 28, 2020)

BATTLE CREEK – Private family graveside services for Barbara M. Finch, 104, of Battle Creek was held in the Ida Grove Cemetery at Ida Grove with Rev. Luann Benge will officiating. A celebration of life will be at a later date. Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Battle Creek was in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Mae Finch was born on a farm, in Logan Township, to George and Fannie (Sheldon) Hoffman Oct. 20, 1916. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1934. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove all her life. When she was young, she taught Sunday school and bible school for many years. Barb taught rural school for five years and then married Ralph Finch Jr., May 21, 1939, in the Little Brown Church. To this union one daughter, Patty, was born. Barb farmed side by side with her husband for 41 years. After retiring from farming, she worked at Ida County State Bank for 16 years. She also did other volunteer work, and her family always came first. Barb enjoyed family get-togethers, of which there were many. She died Nov. 28, 2020, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Patty; and her four sisters: Ruth and husband, Don; Marge and husband, Oscar Jr.; Margaret and husband, Dale; and Sarah and husband, John. Also preceding her in death were her brother, George and wife, Ruth; three nieces: Anita, Rhonda and Beverly; a nephew, Marvin; and one great-nephew, Mike. Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Jill and husband, Jay Wingert of Battle Creek, and Ben and wife, Jenn Iversen of Missouri Valley. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Shelby and husband, Jacob Davis, and Gavan, Virginia and Little Ben; her former son-in-law, John Iversen; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
