Death Believed Due to Effects of Heat. Other Battle Creek News
Battle Creek, Oct. 1 – The funeral services for Jerry Schau were held Sunday at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Claude Fausnaugh in charge. Mr. Schau died Friday morning, Sept. 26. Death was caused by heart trouble. In the extreme hot weather, Mr. Schau became over-heated while painting and his heart has been affected ever since. Friday morning he got up as usual and at his breakfast and immediately complained that he couldn’t get his breath. He passed away about 8 o’clock. He was born in Germany, coming here while a young man. He was 65 years old. He farmed several years, retiring and moved his family to Battle Creek. For a number of years he was manager of the Tie barn and operated a skating ring and dance hall. For the past ten years he had been a painter. He leaves to mourn his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Kent Gould of Ida Grove; Mrs. Earl Volkert, Sioux City; Mrs. Adelbert Simmons, and Mrs. Alma Johnson of Battle Creek; two sons, William and Hartley Schau of Battle Creek. Two grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Rogers will leave this week for California. Their daughter and two sons will go with them and join her husband, C. M. Daniels, and son, Dean, who west there in August. Mr. Daniels is teaching in Los Angeles.
